Fractional privacy officer
Fractional privacy officer and ongoing privacy assurance
Not every organisation needs a full-time privacy team, but every organisation that handles personal information needs someone accountable for it. We provide an experienced, part-time privacy officer and the ongoing governance that keeps your obligations current.
Built for
No privacy team
Mid-sized organisations where privacy sits with legal, risk or IT
Between hires
Cover while you recruit or grow internal capability
Ongoing
Governance that keeps running after the project ends
Governance doesn’t end with a workshop
Policies and frameworks drift without ownership, cadence and assurance. Privacy law is changing quickly, and boards expect governance to operate continuously, not just at audit time.
What your fractional privacy officer does
- runs your privacy management program under APP 1, with a plan and a register of obligations
- keeps your privacy policy and collection notices accurate, including the new automated decision-making disclosures
- carries out or reviews privacy impact assessments for new projects and vendors
- prepares you for data breaches and leads assessment and notification under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme
- handles access and correction requests and privacy complaints
- reviews vendors and overseas disclosures before contracts are signed
- delivers privacy training and awareness for staff
- reports to executives and the board on privacy risk and trends
- watches regulatory change and tells you what it means for you
How it works
Onboarding, then a steady rhythm
We start with a short onboarding to understand your obligations, data and current controls, and agree the operating model, cadence and reporting. Then a named senior consultant works with your team on a regular schedule, with extra support when you need it, such as a breach or a major project.
One monthly fee covers the agreed scope, so you get senior privacy expertise without the cost of a full-time hire.
This moved governance from a project to an operating model.
Chief Risk Officer
What you get
- a named, experienced privacy officer
- ongoing governance oversight and a privacy work plan
- risk trend and movement tracking
- board-ready assurance reporting
- breach readiness and response support
- reduced internal governance burden
Need a privacy lawyer as well? We work with specialist privacy lawyers where formal legal advice is needed, so you get one coordinated service.
Frequently asked questions
What is a fractional privacy officer?
A part-time privacy officer provided as a service. You get an experienced professional who carries the privacy officer responsibilities for a set number of days or hours, instead of hiring a full-time person.
Is it acceptable to outsource the privacy officer role?
Many organisations do. Accountability stays with your organisation and its leaders, and the fractional officer does the work and gives advice. Australian Government agencies must designate a Privacy Officer under the Privacy Code, and we can support that person or carry out the functions alongside them.
Who is it for?
Organisations that handle significant personal information but do not have a dedicated privacy team: health, aged care and community services, education, financial services, technology and professional services firms, and government bodies with small teams.
Can you help if we have a data breach?
Yes. We help contain and assess the breach, decide whether it is an eligible data breach, and prepare notifications to the OAIC and affected individuals, working with your legal advisers.
How is it priced?
A monthly fee based on the size of your organisation, the personal information you handle and the scope you choose. We agree it up front after the onboarding conversation.
Can it grow into a full privacy program?
Yes. Many clients start with a privacy compliance review and move to ongoing support, or use the service while building internal capability.
